Horizant Drug Interactions
Alcohol, sleep medications, and narcotics are some of the drugs known to interact with Horizant. These interactions could increase your risk for side effects, such as drowsiness or dizziness. In order to reduce your risk of complications, talk to your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking before starting treatment with Horizant.
Horizant™ (gabapentin enacarbil) may react with a number of other medications. Some of the products that could lead to drug interactions with Horizant include but are not limited to:
- Alcohol
- Narcotics or opiates, such as hydrocodone/APAP (Lortab®, Vicodin®, and many others) or oxycodone (OxyIR®, OxyContin®)
- Sleep medications.
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Horizant is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Alcohol
Alcohol can increase your risk of certain Horizant side effects, such as drowsiness or dizziness. Talk to your healthcare provider about drinking alcohol while taking this medication.
Narcotics or Opiates
Like Horizant, narcotics or opiates often cause drowsiness and dizziness. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these products.
Sleep Medications
Like Horizant, sleep medications often cause drowsiness and dizziness. Check with your healthcare provider before taking Horizant with a sleep medication.
